Wine Chat: Tour of Italy – Sicily, Mt. Etna and Nero d’Avola

To wrap up our Tour of Italy we are covering the island of Sicily. With its Volcanic soils and rich histories it has been a power house in wine production since the 8th century B.C.E. To explore the lands and wines of Sicily we are joined as always by BSC: Wine Science student Cal Lee
Wine of the Week
2023, Minim ‘Colbinabbin’ Nero d’Avola, Heatchote, Victoria
Grown by the Chalmers family in their vineyard next to the town of Colbinabbin. This wine shows finesse and structure from a region facing constant challenges from climate change. Dark fruits and warm spices this wines fruity bouquet hides it power and texture that makes this a great pairing with heavier proteins or a warm fire. Drink now but will happily develop for another 10 years.

If you’re looking for approachable Sicilian wines I recommend Feudo Arancio, with Grillo, Inzolia and Nero d’Avola showing off the variety of Sicillian indigenous grapes.
In terms of Aussie Nero I recomend trying out the following
Sherrah, Nero d’Avola, McLaren Vale S.A.
Ricca Terra, Nero d’Avola, Riverland S.A.
