Need some entertainment but don’t know where to start? Paralysed by the options on your streaming services? Luckily for you, Wayne Massingham is here to save you with his weekly recommendations in film, music, and television.

Film: Caught Stealing

Caught Stealing is the newest release from highly acclaimed director, Darren Aronofsky. His most light-hearted film to date stars Austin Butler (ElvisThe Bikeriders), Zoë Kravitz (The BatmanHigh Fidelity), and Matt Smith (Doctor Who, House of the Dragon). Hank, played by Butler, is a former baseball star who prematurely ended his career due to an injury. His neighbour abruptly leaves and Hank finds the cat and drugs he’s left behind. Caught in the cross-fire, Hank must navigate the demands of angry gangsters to finish something he never started.

Caught Stealing is in cinemas now. Watch the trailer here.

Television: The Studio

This series created by and starring Seth Rogan takes a satirical look into the life of a Hollywood producer. Matt Remick is our producer who at heart is a cinephile, but has to green-light numerous blockbusters to keep the money rolling in. It has an all-star cast with iconic guest appearances and cameos. This comedy has been nominated for a multitude of Emmys and is due to release a second season.

The Studio is available on Apple TV+.

Televsion: Sweetpea

Sweetpea is a very dark comedy-drama that follows Rhiannon Lewis, an employee at the local paper, who finally cracks under life’s challenges and decides to murder someone. She chooses to kill her high school bully as she believes they deserve to die, and once she’s had the taste of murder, she wants more. This series is dark in the most masterfully British way, leaving you wanting more than just six episodes.

Sweetpea is available on Foxtel.

Album: Blue Reminder – Hand Habits

Blue Reminder is the fifth studio album by Hand Habits. Hand Habits is the solo project of powerful guitarist Meg Duffy, guitarist for Perfume Genius’ live shows. Duffy explores themes of love and commitment in both a sweet yet confessional way, building on her expressions on previous albums. She expands on her typical insular sound, experimenting with the rock genre, woodwinds, and synths. This beautiful 12-track album was recorded in LA and is the perfect album for the Aussie springtime.

Blue Reminder is available on Bandcamp.
