Waynes 4×2 – 26 June 2025: 28 Years Later, Sugar and More!

Need something to watch over the weekend but not sure where to start? Want to listen to something but don’t quite know what?

Wayne Massingham is here to save you with his weekly recommendations in film, music, and television.

Film: 28 Years Later

The third installment of the ’28 Days Later’ series is 28 Years Later, set nearly three decades since the virus broke out. We follow a new cast of Jodie Comer (Killing Eve), Ralph Fiennes (Conclave), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Bullet Train), and Edvin Ryding (Young Royals). Living in quarantine on a small island, the cast ventures to the mainland, but unprecedented obstacles await.

28 Years Later is in cinemas now. Watch the trailer here.

Television Show: Sugar

Private investigator, John Sugar (Collin Farrel), is tasked with the disappearance of Olivia Siegel, daughter of a famed Hollywood producer. Sugar is a contemporary dramatic mystery, following and modernising conventions of the noir genre. This series is 5 episodes long and has been renewed for a second season.

Sugar is available on AppleTV+. You can watch it here.

Television Show: Am I Being Unreasonable?

This show revolves around the lives of Nic and Ollie, mother and son. Nic is feeling unfulfilled in her marriage and morally torn about her affair with recently passed Alex, her husband’s brother. She meets Jen, a mum from Ollie’ school, and they instantly form a friendship, but Jen is more devious than she seems.

Am I Being Unreasonable? is available on SBS On Demand. You can watch it here.

Album: Planting by the Signs – S. G. Goodman

Planting by the Signs is the third album by the Americana, country, and rock artist S. G. Goodman. This Kentucky-based musician encapsulates her town in this eleven track album with strong percussive performances and guitars that are both wistful and magnetic. Inspired by Lucinda Williams, with vocals like Cat Power, listeners of Waxahatchee and Big Thief will undoubtedly enjoy this newest release.

Planting by the Signs can be listened to on Bandcamp here.
