Warning over beetle after thousands of trees destroyed

Thousands of Sydney’s trees and bushland down the eastern coast are at risk of being decimated by a tiny, invasive beetle.

Professor Brett Summerell, the chief scientist at Sydney’s botanical gardens has warned that the polyphagous shot-hole borer, which has already destroyed over 4,o00 trees in Western Australia, could well be on its way to Sydney.

Will Prott spoke to Brett on The Daily to learn more.

The NSW Department of Primary Industries Biosecurity hotline is 1800 084 881, which you should contact if you notice any signs of the beetle.
