The Metaphysics of Disappearance – Phillip George at 2SER

One Minute Mountain at the Bondi Pavilion presents a survey of recent works by established artist and Bondi local, Phillip George.
The world is full of forgotten ruins of cultures that, at one point in history, were famous, imposing monuments that humanity couldn’t help but admire. Structures and dogmas that were once unmissable landmarks have repeatedly crumbles down into pieces, faded into the ground, similarly to how movements fade in water only a second after their creation.
This comparison between the physics of liquid and cycling nature of culture is what “One Minute Mountain” is all about. The exhibition explores the recent works of Phillip George, which present the sea as a mirror that reflects and repeats our broken histories and images. In this body of work a submergence in water marks a shift in George’s practice from classical gaze to an exploration of fluid relational spatialises. One Minute Mountain uses water as a metaphor for the appearance and disappearance of culture and meaning. Phillip George joined 2SER Breakfast to discuss the unique nature of his work and practice.
Visit One Minute Mountain from 21 March – 4 May, 2025 and experience first-hand this unique juxtaposition of ideas.
