From the NYC underground, where jazz ancestry and radical innovation converge, Melanie Charles is set to stun Sydney audiences on Sunday, October 26th, in a headline performance for the 2025 Sydney International Women’s Jazz Festival at Mary’s Underground.

Charles, renowned for her genre-bending style of jazz, soul and R&B, mixed with electronics, samples and hints of her Haitian roots, will perform with her Trio; Charles (vocals, flutes, effects), with Ignabu (drums, percussion) and Paul Wilson Bae (piano, key bass), the group promising a night of genre-defying, boundary-pushing sound, together celebrating Rev John Coltrane’s legacy with found footage, interviews, and samples from his contemporaries.
