Not Even Happiness: an interview with Julie Byrne

How do write a love letter for America when there’s not a lot of love to go round? That’s the question Nic posed to singer songwriter Julie Byrne, about her second album Not Even Happiness.

Recorded in her hometown Buffalo in New York state, the album pays homage to the spirit of the American road trip. The album follows the silent, new age and folk rhythm that produces a soothing and reflective experience.

Julie talked about her process, why the album is so different to her 2014 debut and how she needs her life to be written before she can tell what’s next for her music.
