Indigenous Deaths in Custody – Is an End in Sight?

After two more Indigenous men have died in custody in recent weeks, it is clear that the deaths in custody crisis is far from behind us. Instead, 597 Indigenous people have died in custody since the 1991 Royal Commission, and 12 people have died this year. The issue is deep-seated and despite lots of pressure from the community has not been properly. After so much talk, why do deaths in custody keep occurring?
The grandfather of a 24-year-old man who died in custody last month has demanded that the Federal Government intervene, as calls from the community for further action on this issue continue to rise.
