Griffin Martin and Beatnix on Creating a Sound That Feels Like Themselves

Local Eora/Sydney-based duo Griffin Martin and Beatnix have been seriously busy this year, shaping a sound that’s completely their own.

Mixing soulful rap, melodic pop lines, and a splash of electronic experimentation, they’ve landed on something that feels both smooth, yet refreshingly authentic. Since April, they’ve dropped a steady run of singles — Social Cues, Boneheadz, Deliverance, and most recently Exit Plan (9th Oct) — each one building on their cheeky inventiveness, wit, and camaraderie.

Joining Alessia Lalli and Billy Keall on Newfangled, Griffin and Beatnix chatted about finding their rhythm as collaborators, how they split the creative load between writing, production, and performance, and how teaming up has helped refine their sound. The conversation also touched on their home recording setups — and even a few philosophical questions from Billy about life on a deserted island.
