A study carried out by the Australian Institute of Marine Science has revealed that the coral coverage in the Great Barrier Reef is expected to decrease. This problem has been ongoing since January 2024, when an unprecedented marine heatwave struck the reef, leading to a significant coral bleaching event.
Due to the seriousness of this occurrence, there are concerns that the Barrier Reef may struggle to recover effectively.
