Known for its vibrant celebration of diversity, resilience, and unapologetic joy, the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras is a landmark event on the global cultural calendar. This year, the festival unveils its new theme, ECSTATICA- championing euphoria, freedom, and community pride across more than 100 events from 13 February to 1 March 2026.

With the launch of a new Mardi Gras App designed as a year-round digital hub for the community, and major new events joining iconic staples like the Parade and Fair Day, the 2026 festival is set to be a powerful testament to queer connection and creativity. We sat down with Jesse Matheson, the interim CEO of Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, to discuss the vision behind ECSTATICA and what to expect from this year’s celebrations.
