FEATURE ALBUM
Palimpsesa by Mal Devisa

The Feature Album this week on 2SER is Palimpsesa by Amherst, Massachusetts-based poet, activist and experimental musician Mal Devisa aka Deja Carr.
Entering music with a dream to found an afrobeat band, Carr began performing music in punk groups as a twelve-year-old before learning bass guitar and music production and began releasing original solo work around 2014.
Fittingly, the title is a reference to a Palimpset, a type of manucript that is in a constant state of flux and updating through overlays. And it’s a wild ride of a record and a brilliant combination of live and sampled/looped production featuring heartwrenching acoustic jazz, left-field indie- folk, ambient acoustics and straight down the line rap bangers.
Palimpsesa is a monumental 29-track tape that comprises much new material along with remastered back-catalogue tracks drawing from previous (and very hard to find) work dating back to 2014, and it’s an incredible snapshot to an enigmatic, prolific and unique artist who reveals a piece of themselves in each piece of their music.
Palimpsesa is out now on Cassette via Topshelf Records.
