Antarctica’s ice sheets and the risk of rising seas

Global sea levels are continuing to rise as Antarctica’s ice melts. 

Normally, sea ice works to protect large ice shelves, but when it disappears, ocean waves get bigger, and can break off huge chunks of ice. 

These events could become more frequent as sea ice continues to decline.
