Currently in Australia, if you need a heart transplant, you’ll be put on a waiting list that could be up to two years long. Once you’re lucky enough to receive a transplant, you could experience organ rejection. And the average successful heart transplant lasts about 10-20 years, after which time you may even need another one.

But thanks to a recent development in the cardiology field, this might not be the case in the near future. Scientists from Tel Aviv University in Israel have successfully 3D printed a heart from human tissue. To tell us more, we spoke to Professor of Nursing and senior investigator of the Heart Failure Snapshot Study, Professor Phillip Newton from Western Sydney University.
