Wayne’s 4×2 – Bugonia, Toxic Town and More!

With a stormy weekend on the way, you might be looking for new things to watch and listen to as you wait for the weather to clear. Luckily for you, Wayne Massingham is here to give his weekly recommendations in film, television and music.

Film: Bugonia

The newest film by Yorgos Lanthimos. Bugonia is an absurdist dark comedy following a successful female pharmaceutical CEO (Emma Stone) being kidnapped by a pair of conspiracy theorists (Jesse Plemons, Aidan Delbis) who believe that she is an alien with a plan to destroy Earth.

Bugonia is in cinemas now. Watch the trailer here

Television: Toxic Town

Based on the true story of the Corby toxic waste case, this limited series follows three mothers whose children were born with defects due to the toxic waste in the area. It starts Jodie Whittaker, Aimee Lou Wood and Robert Carlyle.

Toxic Town can be viewed on Netflix here

Television: Mid-Century Modern

Comparatively lighter than Wayne’s other recommendations this week, this throw-back sitcom done in the three camera style complete with laugh track follows three older gay men who – after an unexpected death – decide to move in together in Palm Springs, California with the wealthiest friend’s mother (played by the late Linda Lavin in her final role).

Mid-Century Modern can be viewed on Disney+ here

Music: Snocaps — Snocaps

This surprise release debut album from the Crutchfield sisters, Katie (better known by her stage name Waxahatchee) and Allison, is a blend of the pairs previous successes of the past. With 13 songs and an almost 50/50 split between both sisters, the album has influences of indie pop, indie rock and Americana, creating a sweet and tender album with indie effervescence.

Snocaps can be listened to on Bandcamp here
