The Declining Sperm Count Mystery
This might come as a hit to the ego of some of the men out there, but the sperm of human males isn’t in great shape.
It’s thought that elephants can produce up to 200 billion sperm per ejaculation, while men can produce just about 100 million. But what’s more concerning to scientists is evidence which could suggest that our overall sperm count is undergoing a massive decline-and we’re not entirely sure why.
Professor Brett Nixon from the School of Environmental and Life Sciences at the University of Newcastle has dedicated much of his life to studying fertility. He joined the Wednesday Daily to discuss what could be behind the sperm count drop.
