FEATURE ALBUM
Through Blood, Like Kin by Ella Haber
The Feature Album this week on 2SER is Through Blood, Like Kin by Ella Haber.
Over five years in the making, the local vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and composers’ debut is a stellar collection of deep and expansive jazz and soul that lyrically expores themes of family and friendship as well as the catharsis of music itself.
Reinforcing the theme of interconnection, Haber worked closely with a wide host of friends in recording and composing Through Blood, Like Kin across numerous studios across Sydney and the Illawara. In particular producer Yianni Adams brought a magic touch via his Marrickville home studio, and the album is an incredibly written and recorded piece of music that has a resolute energy that underpins it’s impressive composition along with a standout vocal performance by Haber herself.
Released on local vinyl imprint Planet Trip, it has also been keptoff major streaming services, aiming to encourage alternatives for music consumption that prioritize artist value and intentional listening. We highly recommend buying the LP or digital via bandcamp as this is one of the finest Australian releases of the year.
