UTS staff, union reps speak out against course suspensions

University of Technology staff and union representatives joined The Daily this morning, speaking out against the university’s decision to suspend enrolments in more than 100 courses as it attempts to save $100 million next year.
University staff have said they were left “shocked” by the decision and are disappointed by the lack of communication from senior management.
Among the courses that have been suspended include teacher education degrees, a move that “came without warning,” according to Associate Professor Don Carter, the discipline head of teacher education at UTS.
Dr Sarah Attfield, the UTS branch manager of the National Tertiary Education Union and Carter, joined The Daily to discuss more.
