Charlotte Otton’s I Watched Someone Die on TikTok and the Algorithm
The algorithm often seems to have control of us. One minute, we’re watching videos of clothing hauls, the next, we’re seeing things that are tragic and grim.
Charlotte Otton noticed this when she was scrolling through TikTok one morning and witnessed a young girl take her last breath. After the shock set in, she completely dissociated, before creating a show called I Saw Someone Die On TikTok, a darkly comic look the algorithm and the stranglehold it has on us.
Thursday Daily producer Siobhan chatted with Charlotte about the show before it premieres at Fringe Sydney.
