Using lightning to make ammonia: The a new revolutionary method – Professor Cullen on 2SER Breakfast

Ammonia, otherwise known as NH3, is an essential component in our modern economy, yet the process for making it up till now requires huge amounts of fossil fuels and infrastructure. However, this may be about to change as a new process for making ammonia locally and effectively was developed right here in Sydney over at the University of Sydney.

Professor Cullen, the leading force behind this new development, is joining us here at 2SER to tell us more about the importance of this discovery and its exciting implications for the future!

In this interview, Professor Cullen highlights the importance of developing more efficient and more environmentally friendly methods for making the industrial compounds that keep our economy and world in function. Ammonia is a chemical which’s production is responsible for an excessive quantity of carbon emissions that requires a great deal of equipment and capital to work. That’s why this method could prove so important for the future of chemical production. Professor Cullen also highlights the importance of buying local as a whole and reaching out to local farms and businesses to reduce transportation related emissions.

There are a lot of amazing research studies happening here in Sydney that are bound to change the world, so if you want to learn more head over to The University of Sydney to learn more!
