Ant Gallery yearn for the music

Ant Gallery are a four-piece band from right here in Eora/Sydney. They’ve just put out their third ever single, ‘George’. It follows on from their previous two singles, ‘Dance to Graceland’ and ‘These Hands’. It also follows on from a lifetime of yearning.
And you can tell. ‘George’ is a product: daggy 70s Bee Gees inspired dad-rock; long and meandering editing processes; certain lyrics from ‘Come on Eileen’; Bossa Nova and Samba; Pulp (albeit indirectly); this incredibly useful music discovery website called Radiooooo; and, above all, a live show which allows the band to allow their songs to evolve. The band have been heavy on the Inner West touring circuit for the last 12 months and are gearing up for the release of their debut album at the end of the year.
Josh from Newfangled spoke to Joely, James and Micaela (sans fourth member Jack, who was in Egypt at the time of recording) of Ant Gallery to discuss the making of ‘George’, going in depth on its lyrical and sonic inspirations. The band even played a bunch of songs they’ve been listening to throughout the year. If you want to know what songs they are, you’re just gonna have to listen to the interview.
Ant Gallery are also playing at the Metro Social on 24 September. You can get tickets here.
