NEW Government Strategy to Encourage Girls in Sport

The New South Wales government has introduced a new strategy called ‘Play Her Way’ to promote sport participation among teenage girls, and aims to boost their confidence on sports fields and in male-dominated sectors.

This initiative involves teenage girls from across the state in helping design sports programs, breaking down barriers that prevent girls from engaging in sports. It is intended to foster confidence in leadership, participation, and a sense of belonging among young women.

Play Her Way plays a crucial role in empowering young women, particularly as the gender gap in sports participation remains significant, with research showing a 23% difference between teenage boys and girls in New South Wales. Since many teenage girls face challenges with self-image and confidence, encouraging their involvement in sports is vital.

Monday Daily host Eva Greifeneder talked with Kerry Turner from the Office of Sport for NSW, leader of Play Her Way, about the importance of this initiative…

Let’s support young women in getting active and closing the sport participation gap!
