Call to protect Aboriginal children’s rights at justice conference

First Nations child advocates are calling on governments to stop failing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.
Meeting in Alice Springs last week, members of the First Nations Caucus of Children’s Commissioners and Guardians from across Australia and New Zealand say too many kids are being locked up instead of supported.
They are warning that reforms lowering the age of criminal responsibility and reducing access to diversion are retraumatising children and breaching human rights.
