What’s Australia’s obligations with services for refugees?

The mental health of refugees and asylum seekers is dramatically increasing across the world.

In terms of mental health, 27 percent of adult refugees suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder and 30 percent from depression.

Australia signed the United Nations 1951 Refugee Convention and has committed to protect people fleeing war.

However, Australia’s mental health care programs are not accessible enough.

The Wire’s Eduardo Jordan asked Clinical Psychologist and Researcher from the University of New South Wales Philippa Specker what’s the prevalence of mental health issues in refugees and asylum seekers
