Stiles on Style

Mysterious musical icon, Ela Stiles is no stranger to the Australian underground scene. Whether is be as an enigmatic member of outfits like Songs and Bushwalking, or a veiled figure who has become synonymous with niche labels like Bedroom Sucks or Paradise Daily, there’s no doubt that the last decade has established Ela is a mythological name. Since first experimenting with with her voice on a debut solo release in 2014, Ela has been bucking the trends of accessible and radio-friendly music with a penchant for tor tackling lengthy drone and ambient influenced compositions, readapting her work with unconventional instruments and abrasive yet minimal remixes. After some time away from the mic, and a period of process, creation and harnessing self worth, Ela has recently unveiled her synth-pop record NOT A STRANGER.

This fourth album marks a stylistic shift for the Naarm (Melbourne) based musician, as it’s a record that drifts effortlessly through murky muttered mantras to throbbing club pulses. Recently Ela Stiles took some time out to have a chat on The Band Next Door on 2SER about her love of pop music, the makings of Not A Stranger and her relationship with her voice over time,

Not A Stranger is out now through Felt Sense Recordings.
