Music as Catharsis and Healing

In stressful times, we have a tendency to reach for music to soothe ourselves. We’ve seen the viral videos of people singing from their balconies, and many musicians host live-stream concerts in an effort to unite humanity. Is there a clinical healing or cathartic effect to music? Dr. Tim Byron, Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Wollongong, joins us now to explain.
