The forecast for the rest of 2025 is incredible music, especially locally. We thrilled to be able to hear the full release of Body Break, the second studio album from Eora/Sydney art-folk beacons Beryl. The project of Alex Jasprizza and Gabriela Ellicot, Beryl have been making incredibly unique music for a number of years now, combing spacious orchestrated sounds with incredibly revealing personal themes delivered in the blunt yet poetic lyrics. Themed as a portrayal of how experiences leave a mark on our bodies over time, this is a stunning follow-up to their debut “Dry Peel Crack” and a welcome return from one of the most alluring groups in this city.

This week also sees the release of Sky is Falling, the long-awaited first studio record from dust. The Novocastrian wonders have released tracks sparingly over the last few years, and release a steller debut record here, that takes a more considered approach in comparison some of their more frantic previous work. Navigating catharsis and confrontation via  jagged, melancholic shoe gaze and icy, poetic indie rock, this is a real gem from a hotly tipped recording an live band.

Another highly awaited debut out this week is The Imposter, from jetsetting coldwave exponent Black Dahlia. Black Dahlia is a (currently) Eora/Sydney-based electronic musician who combines vintage synthesis with theatrical and surreal performane art. Lead singles such as “Bodyguard” was a huge favourite on the 2SER airwaves, and gave a great taste of their particular form of sonic wizardy, taking cues from the stark and ominous sonic palette of the Eurythmics and theatrics of Kate Bush. It’s a stellar debut and a complete record, highly worth diving into.

Jumping over to New York briefly, today also sees the release of Space Cadet, the fourth record from prolific multi-instrumentalist and producer Carrtoons, aka Ben Carr. Less widely known as a solo artist, Carr is nonetheless a highly respected producer and studio musician, who has collaborated with artists including Freddie Gibbs, Roy Ayers, Nate Smith, Kiefer, George Clinton (of Parliament Funkadelic) and more. Space Cadet is his fourth record in two years (thus earning the prolific tag), and is an excellent soul, hip hop and RnB album with textured live and sampled sounds with groove in spades, that is themed as a concept record around the idea of  love and jealousy in the age of social media (and space). It’s out now on +1 records.

We’re also blessed with some killer singles this week from local goth goers Second Idol railing against deception and authority with “Spineless Wonders“, 70s Vietnamese pop being reimagined through the lens of Tony Allen style Afrobeat by DJ Slowz, “Di Sản” plus the latest from Aotearoa power-pop blasters Dick Move. There’s heaps more coming out of your speakers on 107.3 mhz 24/7/365 or your preferred digital devices!
