Molasses is the second studio album from enigmatic Eora/Sydney vocalist Natalie Slade – an impeccabledose of sugar-sweetened jazz, theatrical neo-soul and poetic storytelling. Recorded locally as well as during stints in the UK, Slade teamed up with longtime friends such as Laneous (guitar) , TheDieYoungs (Keys), Sampology (Percussion) and Dan Kye (production) and this is a stunner of high-production Jazz and Soul. In news just in – you can hear Natalie performing this Live on Thursday August 28 at Stro Motion – a night of cosmic proportions curated by Sofie and Prize of Shadows of tomorrow. Co-presented by 2SER, this will be at Oxford Art Factory and also feature Cinta and local DJ Edseven.
The long-anticipated new Shepparton Airplane record has just landed today as well via Wing Sing Records. The follow up to their critically acclaimed Sharks LP (2020), Forecast is a raw and pulsing collection of post-punk grooves, witty lyrics, selectively applied distortion and unpredictable sonic twists. Shepparton Airplane will be flying into town on September 5th for a free show at Vic On The Park!
What is art? Where does entertainment end and art begin? What does it mean to be an artist? How do we measure creative success? Where are the boundaries between audience and performer when everyone’s broadcasting their lives 24/7?” – these are the questions posed by Athens, Georgia guitarist and songwriter T.Hardy Morris on his just released fifth album Artificial Tears. Recorded in Nashville with My Morning Jacket’s Carl Broemel on recording and production, it’s a fantastic jaunt through alternative country, fuzz-rock and existential big-question musings. Out now on Normaltown Records and this will be right up the alley of the likes of Kurt Vile and Buck Meek.
Also keep your ears peeled for some great singles from here around around the country. Bumpy has just released a gorgeous (and long) bumping soul jam “Cosy Comfy“, a taste of the much anticipated debut album, Kanana, which the Naarm-based vocalist and member of Squid Nebula will be releasing later in the year. Also tune in to hear some dark and funky goodness from local solo artist Chiara Kovacs “Pub” as well as the latest Krystal Rivvers and much more. Viva la community radio and independent music.
